Scholarship Award Rules

Subject to these Official Rules (“Rules”), OfficeChairsOnSale.com (“Business”) will award one scholarship of $1,000 U.S. dollars each year, timed to coincide with the beginning of a typical university fall semester.

Eligibility

Applicants must be legal residents of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, be at least 18 years old when applying, and be currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary college or university.

Employees and affiliates of Business, their immediate family members, and people residing at the same address are not eligible. Void where prohibited by law.

Do not apply if you do not agree to these Rules.

Application Requirements

Submit all requested contact information, including your name and email address, along with a link to your self-produced video, to our scholarship coordinator through this form.

  • You must create and own your video.
  • The video must be 100% original and free of copyrighted or trademarked content.
  • Only one application per person is permitted.
  • All applications and submitted content become the property of Business and will not be returned.

Application content may appear in marketing materials or on the Business website without further compensation or notice.

Business is not liable for potential recipient notifications that are lost, intercepted, or not received for any reason.

By applying, you fully and unconditionally accept these Rules and the decisions of Business, which are final and binding.

How the Potential Winner Is Selected

We look for eligible applicants who address the topic clearly, concisely, and creatively. A committee of Business management team members will select one potential winner based on creativity, ability, originality, and the applicability of the submitted content.

Before receiving an award, the potential winner must provide proof of enrollment at the college or university named in the application.

The potential winner will be notified by private social media message or email. Business is not liable for notifications that are lost, intercepted, or not received for any reason.

Scholarship Payment & Recipient Requirements

The selected winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship paid by check to the accredited post-secondary institution the recipient attends. Payment requires enrollment and proof of enrollment for the current semester.

Awards cannot be assigned, transferred, or changed except at Business’s sole discretion. No cash equivalent will be provided. Awarding the scholarship depends on full compliance with these Rules.

The award will be forfeited if a recipient:

  • Does not respond to electronic communication within 10 calendar days.
  • Fails to provide proof of identity.
  • Refuses to provide a required affidavit.
  • Refuses to complete and provide requested tax forms, including an IRS W-9.
  • Violates these Rules or fails to meet eligibility requirements.

In these cases, the applicant with the next-highest score will become an alternate potential recipient.

Business is not liable for injuries, losses, or damages arising from participation in the scholarship program or acceptance, possession, or use of an award. Business is not responsible for typographical or other errors in the offer, program administration, or award announcement.

Recipients are solely responsible for taxes on their awards and will be issued 1099 tax forms.

Privacy

By applying, you acknowledge that Business and its related companies may contact you about the scholarship.

Publicity

Except where prohibited by law, accepting an award gives Business permission to use the recipient’s name, voice, and likeness without limitation, further compensation, or notice, in any media worldwide to advertise or promote Business, its products and services, or its scholarship program.

Ownership of Submitted Content

By applying, you agree that Business owns your application, submitted video, and any images linked in your application. As between you and Business, Business also owns all publishing rights to the application and any written response.

You irrevocably grant, transfer, sell, assign, and convey to Business and its successors and assigns all present and future rights, titles, and interests of every kind in your application, written responses, and linked media. These include all copyrights and incidental, subsidiary, ancillary, allied, and derivative rights, for use throughout the universe, forever, through any media or devices now known or developed in the future.

Business may, at its sole discretion, edit, composite, morph, scan, duplicate, or alter your application and submitted content for any purpose it considers necessary or desirable. You irrevocably waive all moral rights you may have in the application and written responses.

You acknowledge that you retain no rights in the application or submitted content.

Dispute Resolution

Except where prohibited by law, Pennsylvania law exclusively governs the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Rules and the rights and obligations of participants, Business, and their agents, without applying any jurisdiction’s conflict-of-law principles.

Any legal or equitable action relating to the program or its awards must be filed only in Pennsylvania state or federal courts. Applicants consent and submit to those courts’ personal jurisdiction.

Except where prohibited, applicants agree that:

  • All disputes, claims, and causes of action relating to the program or awards must be resolved individually, without any class action.
  • Claims, judgments, and awards are limited to actual out-of-pocket costs, including participation costs, and never include attorney fees.
  • Applicants waive the right to claim punitive, incidental, consequential, or other damages beyond actual out-of-pocket expenses, and waive any right to have damages multiplied or increased.

Some jurisdictions do not allow limits or exclusions of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so those limits may not apply to you.

Representations, Warranties & Indemnification

Each applicant represents and warrants that:

  • The application and linked media are the applicant’s own original, previously unpublished, and previously unused work.
  • The linked video is wholly original and is not subject to actual or threatened litigation or claims when submitted.
  • The submission does not infringe or violate another person’s or entity’s intellectual property or other rights.
  • The submission does not and will not violate applicable laws and meets the submission requirements above.

Each applicant agrees to indemnify and hold Business harmless from all third-party claims, actions, proceedings, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from or relating to any breach or alleged breach of the applicant’s warranties, representations, or agreements under these Rules.

Additional Documentation

Except where prohibited, potential recipients—or their parents or legal guardians if they were minors when applying—must complete and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity/Liability Release within 10 days of notification. Otherwise, the applicant with the next-highest score will become an alternate potential recipient.

If a notification is returned as undeliverable, the applicant with the next-highest score may become an alternate potential recipient.

No Obligation to Use Submissions

Business has no express or implied obligation to use or otherwise exploit a winning application, or to continue its development, production, distribution, or exploitation. Business may stop using a winning application at any time and for any reason, with or without legal justification or excuse. Recipients are not entitled to damages or other relief because of that decision.

General Release & Limits on Liability

By entering, applicants acknowledge and agree that Business, its related companies and affiliates, and each company’s employees, officers, directors, and agents are not responsible for costs, injuries, losses, or damages arising from or connected with:

  • Incomplete, lost, late, misdirected, or illegible entries, or failure to receive applications for any reason. This includes human, transmission, or technical problems, failures, or malfunctions, whether originating with the sender or otherwise, that may limit participation.
  • Injury or damage resulting directly or indirectly, wholly or partly, from participation or use of an award. This includes claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages involving personal injury, death, property damage, loss or destruction of property, publicity or privacy rights, or claims of defamation or portrayal in a false light.

Business is not responsible for damage to an applicant’s computer system caused by accessing the website or participating in the program. Business also assumes no responsibility for computer system, phone line, hardware, software, or program malfunctions; human or technical errors or failures; delayed transmissions or network connections; inaccurate information capture; or failure to capture information.

This program is subject to all U.S. federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited by law.

Right to Modify, Suspend, or End the Program

If an event beyond Business’s reasonable control prevents the program from continuing, Business may, at its sole discretion, modify, suspend, or terminate the program.

General Provisions

Business may, at its sole discretion, disqualify anyone who tampers with the application process, program, or website; violates these Rules; submits dishonest or inaccurate responses; or acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.

If an entrant’s identity is disputed, the authorized account holder of the email address used to enter will be considered the entrant. This is the individual assigned that email address by an internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning addresses for the relevant domain.

If Business confirms that an application was mistakenly deleted, lost, or destroyed, the entrant’s only remedy is to submit another application, if time permits.

Business’s failure to enforce any part of these Rules does not waive that provision or any other provision.
